ReMA's ISRI SPECIFICATIONS

ReMA’s ISRI Specifications are designed to facilitate the trading and use of the entire range of recycled materials including recycled ferrous and nonferrous metals, paper, plastics, electronics, glass, tire and rubber, and residential recyclables. By providing a common language for buyers and sellers of recycled commodities around the world, the Specifications also play a key role in market development and realizing the full economic and environmental benefits generated by recycling.

The Specifications are reviewed on an ongoing basis to ensure they meet the demands of the global marketplace. Any individual, company, or organization can propose additions, modifications, or deletions to the Specifications. As the flow of recyclable materials continues to evolve with the introduction of new products into the supply stream, ReMA will continue to update the Specifications.

ReMA gratefully acknowledges funding received from the U.S. Commerce Department’s Market Development Cooperator Program to promote ReMA’s ISRI Specifications and U.S. exports of recycled materials.

About ReMA's ISRI Specifications

ReMA’s ISRI Specifications are intended to assist members in the buying and selling of their materials and products. In April 2024, ISRI rebranded to the Recycled Materials Industry (ReMA). The Specifications remain the same and only the name ReMA has been added to the title.

These specifications are derived from many sectors of the metals, paper stock, plastics, glass, and electronics industries and are constructed to represent the quality or composition of the materials bought and sold in the industry. The specifications are internationally accepted and are used throughout the world to trade the various commodities.

Parties to a transaction may specify particular variations or additions to these specifications as are suited for their specific transactions and for their individual convenience. Any deviation from the standard specifications, however, should be mutually agreed to and so stipulated in writing by the parties to the transactions.

ReMA maintains an Arbitration Service as a means of enabling members to settle differences between themselves or between one of them and a non-member.
In addition, the “Guidelines for Metals Transactions” contain supplementary information that will aid members in completing their business transactions. It is recommended that these Guidelines be reviewed and that members use them in conjunction with the actual specifications in the conduct of their business.

Please review the Rules Governing the Procedures for the Addition, Amendment, or Withdrawal of Scrap Specifications and please contact ReMA with any comments, suggestions, or questions.
